Technotransembodiment and Ahumanist Disidentification in Arca and Yeule’s Somatic Projects

Abstract

Based on two somatic projects – Arca and Yeule – this article tries to distinguish two separate somatic politics. The section focused on Arca’s work analyzes her KiCK pentalogies through its visual layer, using tools developed by cyberfeminism and technotransfeminism. This article explores how the process of transition can be understood outside of medical and legal paradigms, as well as how non-heteronormative reproduction disrupts traditional views of reproductive futurism. In turn, Yeule’s work – her music videos and song lyrics – is examined through corporeality in symbiotic categories. This analysis reveals how the openness of the queer body leads to identity disidentification and body disintegration, the processes of which are linked to an activist rethinking of death and passivity, understood as life-giving practices of hospitality toward the Other.
