The present study examines the status ofsecondary school magazines within the contexts ofgrammar and vocational secondary schools inSlovakia. Itobtains relevant results using a semantic differential method addressed tothe editors-i n- c hief ofindividual school magazines.
There are 16 magazines intotal. The object ofthe study is to find out the degree ofautonomy given tothe editors- i n- c hief, the organizational and managerial processes ofrunning the journal, and the means ofcreating continuity for these activities within the environment ofsecondary vocational schools and grammar schools. After obtaining the answers from the scaled test, we arrive atthe results through statistical operations and acalculated index that describes the status ofeach selected aspect. The factors weexamine are animportant part ofthe editorial office functioning. Toavoid problems, school journal programs attempt toensure continuity and to train future students inthis work. Wesee the degree ofautonomy and the intervention of the educator in the production as an essential part of the concept of learning- b y-doing. Atthe same time, this balance ofautonomy and intervention provides smoother organization, management, and continuity, specifically asaneducational activity inthe field ofmedia education.
