Abstract
This theoretical review article aims to identify popular internet trends circulating on social media that have emerged through the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI, GenAI). This technology makes it possible to produce a vast amount of content at a seemingly low cost, which then spreads virally online. Drawing on examples such as flooding the zone, AI slop, brainrot, and boomertrap, the article presents new forms of disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation that contribute to the phenomenon of information smog encountered by social media users. It also discusses their sociocultural consequences. In addition, the article highlights related internet trends that may shape messages circulating in political discourse, while also
addressing the possible causes of their emergence and the potential consequences of AI‑generated content in social media environments.
